Best Places for Bowling in Detroit

It’s almost easy to find fun things to do in the warm weather, but Detroiters will find themselves looking for fun things to do during the colder months; bowling is just one of the many fun things to enjoy during those winter days. An activity that can be fun during either warm or cold months, bowling has been a family treat for years.

Not only being a great escape from the bitter cold weather, or sizzling summer days, bowling facilities have been the central location for birthday parties, business venues and fundraisers. On top of having a good time with friends and family, bowling can be cost-saving.

Five of the best places for bowling in Detroit have been chosen for great locations, bowling specials, and low prices.

Plum Hollow Lanes

Community Bowling Centers located in surrounding areas of metro Detroit have a vast selection of bowling facilities and offer great specials. Plum Hollow Lanes in Southfield have fantastic specials for your bowling pleasures: Mondays are “B.O.G.O. Night” from 10:30 pm- 1:00 am; buy one game at a regular price, and get one game free. A $2.00 shoe rental is not included and must be paid for. Tuesdays are “Deuces Wild,” where everything is $2 from 9 pm until 1 am: $2 per game, $2 shoe rental, and $2 draft beer. This is a great choice for the deal-seeker.

Regal Lanes

Speaking of deal seekers, Regal Lanes is one of the most inexpensive locations in Detroit to bowl. Open bowling is only available on Mondays and Tuesdays at Regal Lanes, with prices to bowl being as low as $2.00 per game and $2.50 for shoe rentals. Located on the skirts of metro Detroit, Regal Lanes is equipped with automatic scoring, a full restaurant, bar, and nightclub. Detroiters visiting Regal Lanes will experience a total “night out” for the entire family.

Regal Lanes in Warren, Michigan, closed in 2019. The decision to close was influenced by financial difficulties and the changing entertainment landscape, much like many other bowling alleys facing declining patronage and rising operational costs. The closure marked the end of a beloved community gathering spot that had served the local area for many years.

Hazel Park Bowl

One of my favorite places to bowl in Detroit is Hazel Park Bowl because bowling is free on Thursdays; the only cost to you is for shoe rental. Located a few miles from metro Detroit, Hazel Park Bowl is great for family fun. Housing more than 20 bowling lanes, a full bar, and sufficient space, Hazel Park Bowl’s patrons are comforted with large screen T.V.s and a grille serving food. On Tuesdays, bowling at Hazel Park is only $1, starting at 9:30 pm.

Hazel Park Bowl closed down in 2018 due to a combination of factors including economic challenges and changes in consumer habits. The sudden closure left many employees and patrons surprised and marked the end of an era for the community.

Majestic Bowl and Garden Bowl

For people looking to have a bit more excitement included in their bowling experience, Majestic Bowl and Garden Bowl are the places to go. Both bowling facilities are located in the heart of Detroit and are conveniently located for a night out. Both facilities are equipped for a complete entertainment experience; Majestic has a theatre, and Garden Bowl’s bar area has live entertainment. The prices for bowling at both facilities are a bit more expensive than the previously mentioned places; some games have been priced as low as $20 per game.

Regardless of what type of bowling experience you prefer, there is a place in Detroit to cater to it. So, when you are looking for something fun for the family to do tonight in Detroit, take them bowling!
