Hoda Kotb Bids Farewell to ‘Today’ After Nearly 20 Years

After nearly two decades with NBC’s beloved morning show, Hoda Kotb, co-host of “Today,” signed off on Friday, marking the end of an era for both her and her loyal viewers.

To celebrate her remarkable journey, “Today” featured a heartfelt retrospective filled with memorable moments shared by her wonderful co-anchors—Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Carson Daly. Emotions ran high as Hoda expressed her gratitude, saying, “Can I just say thank you? I have not been able to articulate it because I’m a mess most of the time.”

Hoda took a moment to praise her colleagues, calling Savannah Guthrie “her person” and Al Roker “my first friend” at the show. She also affectionately referred to Carson Daly as the show’s “secret sauce.” To Craig Melvin, who is stepping into a new co-anchor role, Hoda joked that she’ll be “dead asleep” on Monday when he starts his new position.

The send-off wasn’t complete without appearances from some of Hoda’s favorite people, including Maria Shriver and Olympic star Simone Biles, who hinted at meeting Hoda again at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Hoda’s children also joined the celebration, and even Kermit the Frog made a special appearance, declaring that Hoda’s smile is his favorite thing about her.

Hoda Kotb’s Influence on “Today” Since 2018

Hoda has been a cornerstone of “Today” since 2018, co-hosting alongside Savannah Guthrie after stepping into the role following Matt Lauer’s departure in 2017. Her journey with the show began in 2007 when she joined as a co-host for the fourth hour, later becoming a key figure in morning television.

Before her time on “Today,” Hoda made a name for herself as a correspondent for “Dateline” starting in 1998. Her warm and genuine personality has made her one of NBC’s most cherished personalities, attracting fans who eagerly awaited their chance to meet her at the 30 Rockefeller Center in New York.

On her final day, fans gathered outside the “Today” studios to celebrate Hoda’s incredible career. The event, lovingly called a “Hoda-bration,” was filled with supporters holding signs and cheering for her. Hoda shared a laugh, saying she plans to “save every single sign” as a memento of her time on the show.

At 60 years old, Hoda surprised many in September when she announced her departure, describing it as the “hardest decision of her life.” She’s choosing to focus more on her family and spend quality time with her two young daughters.

In addition to her role on the first two hours of “Today,” Hoda also hosted the fourth hour with Jenna Bush Hager. Starting next week, this segment will be rebranded as “Jenna & Friends,” featuring guest co-hosts like Keke Palmer, Eva Longoria, and Scarlett Johansson until a permanent host is chosen.

While Hoda is stepping away from her daily role, she’s expected to remain involved with “Today” and NBC News in other capacities, continuing to share her warmth and expertise with audiences.

Hoda Kotb’s departure is one of the most significant changes in morning television in years. Shows like “Today” and ABC’s “Good Morning America” remain cultural staples and highly profitable segments for their networks, even as the broader broadcast industry evolves.

As Hoda embarks on this new chapter, her legacy of kindness, professionalism, and heartfelt connection with viewers will undoubtedly continue to inspire and resonate with fans everywhere.

Hoda Kotb, thank you for nearly 20 years of incredible mornings, unforgettable moments, and unwavering dedication. We wish you all the best in your next adventures and look forward to seeing what you do next!
